I've flown mine on 10+ flights, and it really ready to fly out of the box. I recommend finding open areas and not flying in much wind esp. when you start. I've become so comfortable flying the DJI Phantom 2, that I will fly it over the ocean as far as it can go until it loses connection, and then it will come back to me.
The photos and videos are amazing. When I show it to friends, they all want to buy one.
At some point, I know there is a chance this will crash and esp. since I fly this over the water, I could lose it. These flying machines aren't perfect, but I have been so impressed by the technology and ease of use the DJI offers for the price of a laptop.
This is the most amazing adult toy I've had in quite some time. It's like getting a smartphone/ iPhone for the first time and having so much awesome technology at the tips of your fingers.
