Research. Such a powerful word. Research can propel your eBay business to the next level when done properly. When not done properly? You guessed it - Failure. So why do so many eBay businesses fail? Why do so many other businesses fail? I've already reached my maximum number of cliches per article...but here is one more. 'Fail to Plan, Plan to Fail.' I know...You've heard/read this already. Failure can be achieved with no research. Success cannot.


So let's focus on why Research is NOT the first thing business owners do. Research is NOT SEXY! I mean, who wants to sit down at a computer, pour over hundreds of spreadsheets and graphs, thousands of lines of data, just to figure out the best way to run your eBay business? Here are some of the reasons that other eBay sellers say that research can be such a daunting task:

1. It's boring
2. It's unnecessary.
3. It's misunderstood / confusing
4. eBay Business Owners don't know where to begin
5. It's difficult
6. It's time consuming
7. It's unsure what to look for

Researching what you want to sell, or what you should sell online can take hours. You need to look at things such as competition in the market you're looking to get into. You also need to be aware of the profit margins of the product you want to sell. Then there is the hardest part of all.....Researching companies that will sell you this product you have decided to sell. You are looking for a 100% legit, wholesale company - perhaps even a drop shipping company. You're looking for your research to be able to guide you through this maze. You have to trust that you have done enough research to a point where you feel your money is safe being spent on the specific product(s) with the specific company(ies) that your research has pointed you to.

There're a couple of myths that float around out there about making money online, and I think that all of these myths are perpetuated because the people perpetuating these myths are targeting people who are not online at all and they're really just trying to make a buck off the people who are interested in getting involved online at all.

Just a quick note on that, if you are in the Internet marketing niches, it's very, very difficult to make anything happen in the Internet marketing niches if you're targeting raw beginners because what happens is 98% of them who are raw beginners - they've never done anything, they've never built a website, they've never built an email, they've never done anything - 99% of them peter out when they realize how difficult it is to build their own website or they get conned by some web designer that charges them $2,000 grand and they never really get much of a website. Only 1% of people that are opportunity seekers ever really do anything online.

If you're thinking about being in any Internet marketing niche, if you're going to make money you need to target some point of the market that is not beginners: people that already have their website, it doesn't make any difference if you're going to help them improve their website.
